The Principles - Beyond the mind, body, & spirit

Kurt has been a health and wellness coach for twenty years. He offers insight and clarity to assist his students to observe their limiting patterns, behaviors, and beliefs and shift and evolve them into new empowering perspectives. These new perspectives can then lead to a changed reality, and finally a new experience. He guides his students on a journey into their heart….."There are also new data suggesting that the heart’s field is directly involved in intuitive perception, through its coupling to an energetic information field outside the bounds of space and time," - Karl Pribram.

For centuries we have been fed dogma that the genesis of true intelligence resides solely in the brain. This limiting perspective is now being challenged by pioneers around the world that no longer care about or participate in the status quo. Kurt is one of those pioneers.

Aristotle expressed it eloquently when he stated, "The seat of the soul and the control of the voluntary movement--in fact, nervous functions in general,--are to be sought in the heart. The brain is an organ of minor importance."

Kurt guides you through the 12- areas of your life; they are:

Physical, Mental, Emotional, Psychological, Social, Sexual, Spiritual, Occupational, Financial, Experiential, Your World, and The World.

These areas can be looked upon like children, for example; if you spend more time with one or maybe two of the children the others will become angry, jealous, or incorrigible. No area is more important than any other, they each are a diminutive part of the whole and that whole is you! This process is subtle and it requires dedication. It is simple but not easy. It will show you more about who you truly are than all previous lifetimes combined. You will learn to become more objective than subjective. You will begin to fear less and love more. You will learn to exercise faith instead of controlling with trust. Compassion will slowly begin to take the place of sympathy and it will expand your love thousands of times. You will become less inclined to do what you’ve been doing and it won’t require force or radical change of any kind! You will become less attached to outcomes. The past and future will begin to make way for your present moment.  There will be no room in your life for bitterness, resentment, pain, suffering, sorrow and sadness when you begin to experience the sweet fruit of- Joy, Peace, Happiness, Love, Productivity, Prosperity, Wholeness and Health! You will be introduced and experience what lies beyond the body, mind and spirit. Control’s luster will dull as you learn to MANAGE your life from a new formed perspective.

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our Light, not our Darkness, that most frightens us."

Personal Training -

“Even when all is known, the care of a man is not yet complete, because eating alone will not keep a man well; he must also take exercise. For food and exercise, while possessing opposite qualities, yet work together to produce health.”  - The Father of Medicine, Hippocrates.

The human body is designed to move. How it’s moved and at what frequency, however, is up for debate. Coaching an individual to move better is very different than training someone for their chosen sport i.e.; golf, tennis, swimming or running etc. Some people just want to lose weight and look or feel better than they currently do and that’s fine but unless you approach the training and body from a holistic perspective more often than not your efforts will be, no pun intended, exercises in futility. Simplicity reigns supreme in training. What does that mean? Simply put, the body moves in a myriad of ways and there are just as many exercises to match these movements. Unless you are specifically training for something, what good is improved aerobic capacity if you struggle lifting multiple cases of water or groceries from your vehicle to your house? Or if playing with your children or grand children becomes labor intensive because you’re out of steam? On the contrary, there is  no benefit to being very strong in the weight room when your huffing and puffing walking up some stairs or taking a stroll along the beach. The holistic approach to training incorporates not only the structure of the body but the physiology as well. Kurt brings close to three decades of experience and education to his clients. His methodologies facilitate greater aerobic, anaerobic and strength than you may have thought possible. You will become more flexible and your joints will relish in a new found stability and mobility. You and your body will experience more resiliency and in conjunction with sensible dietary choices and or changes: your mood, mind, memory, behavior, motivation and drive will elevate as well.

"Studies have shown that physical inactivity causes:

  • 1 in 10 deaths worldwide - on par with smoking and obesity
  • 6% of the global burden of disease from coronary heart disease
  • 7% of Type II Diabetes
  • 10% of breast and colon cancer cases
  • 9% of premature mortality
  • doubles the risk of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and obesity
  • increases the risks of high blood pressure, osteoporosis, and lipid disorders
  • increases the risks of depression and anxiety

Exercise and physical activity has been shown to:

  • strengthen muscles and bones and increase cartilage density and resiliency
  • reduces mortality by 50%
  • reduces risk of recurrent breast cancer by 50%
  • reduces the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease
  • lowers the risk of all-cause, cardiovascular, and cancer-specific mortality in adults
  • leads to better academic performance in children
  • improve mental health and mood and is a natural antidepressant
  • improve your ability to do daily activities and prevent falls
  • improve sleep

With all this great scientific evidence and intuition that exercise and physical activity is good for us you'd think everyone would live an active life, but that's not the case. Less than 5% of U.S. adults participate in 30 minutes of physical activity daily. More than 80% of adolescents worldwide are insufficiently physically active. Only 21% of U.S. adults meet the recommendations for sufficient physical activity. U.S. adolescents and adults spend almost 8 hours a day in sedentary behaviors. 36% of U.S. adults participate in no leisure-time physical activity."

The human body is maintained by movement. Use it or lose it. If we don't walk, run, climb, throw, and carry on a daily basis our bodies start to fail. Muscles become stiff and weak. Bones lose density and become fragile. Cartilage becomes thin. Ligaments and tendons become stiff and prone to tears. Skin becomes thin and sensitive. Blood vessels become smaller, stiffer, and less resilient. Digestion slows and becomes incomplete. Immunity weakens. Brain function deteriorates. The signals for cellular repair and rebuilding slow.  Most people call these changes "normal" aging, but they have very little to do with age and everything to do with lack of movement.

Martial Arts Training -

“Whatever you are physically...male or female, strong or weak, ill or healthy--all those things matter less than what your heart contains. If you have the soul of a warrior, you are a warrior. All those other things, they are the glass that contains the lamp, but you are the light inside.” ― Cassandra ClareClockwork Angel

Kurt began his martial arts training in the early 1990’s with Tai Chi Chaun. Tai chi provided a much needed platform of soft, subtle yet powerful movements and a unmistaken inner solitude he had been searching for. Although, he was a consummate student he never felt compelled to be enticed by the dogmatic and often times cult-like fascination these ancient arts sometimes embodied. After training with two teachers over the span of about three years he became disenchanted and with the fervor of a religious zealot immersed himself into self-study. It would be several years later when he was attending acupuncture school in Orlando, Florida where he would meet another teacher. This teacher was not only his mentor but also he became a friend. His name was Dr. Liu and he shared the wisdom of 45 years of oriental medicine and Qigong with Kurt and some of his peers. This is where the journey began with the infusion of Qigong and Tai Chiinto into his daily life. Kurt has been practicing and teaching these internal arts for nearly a quarter century and with his wisdom of the body and the myriad of ways it moves, he has developed a systematic approach of taking complicated and esoteric principles and simplifying them for everyone.

No pain, big gains

Although tai chi is slow and gentle and doesn't leave you breathless, it addresses the key components of fitness — muscle strength, flexibility, balance, and, to a lesser degree, aerobic conditioning. Here's some of the evidence:

"Muscle strength. Tai chi can improve both lower-body strength and upper-body strength. When practiced regularly, tai chi can be comparable to resistance training and brisk walking.

"Although you aren't working with weights or resistance bands, the unsupported arm exercise involved in tai chi strengthens your upper body," says internist Dr. Gloria Yeh, an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School. "Tai chi strengthens both the lower and upper extremities and also the core muscles of the back and abdomen."

Flexibility. Tai chi can boost upper- and lower-body flexibility as well as strength.

Balance. Tai chi improves balance and, according to some studies, reduces falls. Proprioception — the ability to sense the position of one's body in space — declines with age. Tai chi helps train this sense, which is a function of sensory neurons in the inner ear and stretch receptors in the muscles and ligaments. Tai chi also improves muscle strength and flexibility, which makes it easier to recover from a stumble. Fear of falling can make you more likely to fall; some studies have found that tai chi training helps reduce that fear.

Aerobic conditioning. Depending on the speed and size of the movements, tai chi can provide some aerobic benefits. If your clinician advises a more intense cardio workout with a higher heart rate than tai chi can offer, you may need something more aerobic as well."
